A study in complementary colors, tints, shades, and lighting.

This self portrait is one of my favorite achievements as an artist, simply because I had never actually painted a portrait before, and I spent hours and hours perfecting it. My mom even hung it up at home.
Completed for a class called “Design II for Media”, the project was done to show how depth can be created using versions of one color. I got to choose my own lighting scheme for the portrait, and my classmates held up harsh lamps and took my photo. From there, it was a journey in learning how to achieve detail with acrylic paint.
